Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 1, 1929.

He was the leader of the Civil Rights Movement, and had a way of not only bringing people together, but an entire nation. He advocated civil disobedience; non-violent resistance against unjust laws. He put emphasis on the importance of not sinking to the level of the racists and hate mongers.

His most famous speech, the "I Have a Dream" speech, was given on August 28, 1963. The speech moved the nation not only then, but still moves the nation now. See the "I Have a Dream" speech page to listen to the full speech.

Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated at his motel on April 4, 1968.
